DESCRIPTION

Gomasio with dulse, nori, and kombu sea vegetables is the easy way to get their benefits. Sprinkle gomasio on whole grain, pasta, salads, vegetables, popcorn, and more. Eastern cultures do not put straight salt on food. They use condiments like gomasio to balance better and enhance. MORE DETAILS

EDEN Seaweed Gomasio sesame salt is whole roasted organically grown tan sesame seed roasted and ground with EDEN sea salt and three trace mineral-rich sea vegetables - dulse, nori, and kombu. The seeds are natural gas, infared, dry roasted, releasing their oil, then slowly ground with the sea salt and sea vegetable powders. Allergen notice: This product may contain very trace amounts of crustacean shellfish.

Gomasio is a traditional sesame salt used for centuries in Japan. Goma means sesame, and shio means salt. In Eastern cultures, raw salt was rarely used in food. Condiments such as gomasio were used at the table. When hot sesame is ground with salt, the seed's oil coats and melts the salt, melding and mellowing it for full flavor with less salt consumption.

The patriarch of macrobiotics, George Ohsawa, recommended gomasio in the 1960s to replace raw table salt. This popularized gomasio throughout Europe and the Americas as the healthy alternative. Mr. Ohsawa's wisdom is especially meaningful as most Americans consume and have consumed far too much sodium.

Including sesame with meals provides high-quality protein, calcium, iron, and a superior range of amino acids, including methionine, tryptophan, and lysine, often missing in vegetable protein sources. Gomasio is low in sodium, with 80 mg per serving. All five flavors of EDEN Organic Gomasio are low-fat and cholesterol free.

Sesame Sesamum indicum is the oldest known herbaceous plant grown for its seed. It originated in Africa, where it is known as 'benniseed' and 'sim-sim'. Used throughout prehistory, sesame was an important food in Mediterranean and Eastern civilizations and continues to be so today. Greek and Turkish soldiers carried them in their rations. The Egyptians milled sesame for a flour used in breads and many dishes. The Romans ground them into paste to spread on bread. The expression 'open sesame' indicates entrance into splendor and abundance. Sprinkling gomasio sesame salt on food imparts abundant, rich flavor.

EDEN Seaweed Gomasio sesame salt is ideal on whole grains and pasta, sprinkled on salads and vegetables, on popcorn and corn on the cob in place of salt. Use it in salad dressings and marinades.
